The Government of Cameroon set a target of nearly doubling palm oil production from 250,000 tons in 2015 to 450,000 tons by 2026 ( Hoyle and Levang, 2012 ). In response, a National Strategy is being drafted to identify mechanisms for increasing production in a socially and environmentally sustainable manner.

Most of the imported palm oil comes from Indonesia, Malaysia and Gabon. For several years, Cameroon has been faced with a dilemma: boosting productivity without jeopardizing sustainably.
