Rice bran oil was used as the oil model of oleogels due to its low content of saturated fatty acids (≈20 % w/w) and higher amounts of nutritional substances like oryzanol and antioxidants [ 34 ].
What is rice bran oil (RBO)?
Notably, the final oil exhibited light color and retained nearly 80 % of the oryzanol of raw oil. The yield of final oil reached 80–85 % through the entire refining process. Rice bran oil (RBO) is one of the most nutritious and healthy edible oils available.
How is rice bran oil made in China?
Two refining processes, steam refining and miscella refining, are now the primary industrial techniques used for producing edible RBO in China. Steam refining usually produces refined RBO with a dark color, which is designated as grade-three or grade-four RBO according to the National Standard of China (GB19112 Rice Bran Oil) .
What is the oil content of rice bran?
The oil content in rice bran varied relatively strongly, ranging from 17.3 to 27.4% (w/w). The major FA in bran oil were palmitic, oleic, and linoleic acids, which were in the ranges of 13.9–22.1, 35.9–49.2, and 27.3–41.0%, respectively.
What are the processing parameters of rice bran oil?
The main processing parameters were as follows. Refining process of rice bran oil through multi-stage molecular distillation The distillation of raw oil was conducted under an operating pressure of 5–10 Pa, feeding temperature of 150–170 °C, evaporation temperature of 190–220 °C, and condensation temperature of 35–42 °C.
Is rice bran oil edible?
Steam refining usually produces refined RBO with a dark color, which is designated as grade-three or grade-four RBO according to the National Standard of China (GB19112 Rice Bran Oil) . Oils of both of these low grades are edible.
